Mango Festival

Had a touristy day today.

Visited the National Museum = great. Some wonderful Bangladeshi art works (though the curation is appalling! Centuries old national treasures just lying around with kids climbing all over them, paintings held up helter skelter with frayed twine, ancient pottery and glass works covered in dust...)

Then a walk through Dhaka University Campus. Decided it's my new favourite place to chill. The art school is wicked awesome and there were a few shows going on. All the creative vibes motivated me to whip out my sketchbook. When I started doodling, people approached to look over my shoulder. And everyone had a comment to make - not all positive... honest, at least!

We were invited to a mango fesitval hosted by the art students. Tasty mango slices marinated with lime and green chillis and salt. The organizer gave me some hot tips on where to get 1970s Bangladeshi poster art. Brilliant.

Also, I am now famous. I was interviewed by the National News channel:

Interviewer: Tell us how you feel after eating this mango.

Me: It's delicious. I wish I had the recipe. We're so happy to be invited here, though we're still not sure what the festival is in celebration of...

Interviewer: Okay, thank you. [This, followed by a few sentences in Bangla, though I overhear the words, "Laura" and "Canada".]
