So there are all these "Country Clubs" scattered around Gulshan and Binani. And by "Country", I don't mean that they are in the countryside, or are exclusive North American style golf clubs, or anything.
They are named after the home countries of ex pats living in Bangladesh. There's an American Club, an Italian Club, even a Canadian Club (yum). The clubs are social centres with a pool, tennis courts, newspapers from home, and even bars!!!
So yesterday we went to the Dutch Club. Efrath had a broodje Kroket! I had a glass of white wine. Mmmm....
Within the gated walls, it was easy to forget where we were. All around, people speaking Dutch, women wearing tank tops and shorts, the usual obnoxiously loud, blond Dutch children running loose.
We concluded that it's way less fun to hang out here than in REAL Banladesh... though the pool and the thought of icey cold margueritas is a temptation to which we will surely succomb at least once before we leave.
Good for people to know.
