Dissertation on Dutchiness

It just occurred to me that I have yet to write about my "experience" in the Netherlands.

Herewith, some general observations:

  • Dutch people are tall. However, they live in very small houses and drive tiny cars. This is amusing.
  • Dutch people looooooove bread. For lunch, my classmates bring an entire loaf. They wash this down with liters - literally - of milk.
  • The Dutch do not have ovens in their homes. If a Dutch person DOES have an oven, it is like a point of pride: "LOOK! We have an oven!" This makes me wonder about the etymology of the colloquial, "Dutch Oven" (see: Urban Dictionary)
  • Everything you have heard about the Dutch and their bicycles is true
  • Most of the Dutch people I know don't smoke pot. The few that do don't make a big deal about it
