Yesterday I shopped for a goodbye present for my boss, a book, I thought, would be nice.
I can spend a really long time in a bookstore. In fact, I am one of those ass holes that sits down in the aisle and starts reading the book to decide whether or not I like it, then makes a mental catalog of what I want to buy AND THEN goes to a used bookstore where everything is a million times cheaper.
So it was that I found a book about a woman who didn't purchase anything for a year (unless it was a necessity, like food, or minimal electricity bills). Her and her husband even made their own wine instead of buying it.
I think that would be neat to try for a month. If you tried to do it any longer, you would lose all your friends cause they would get sick of you being all like, la di da, I'm not into your consumerist bullshit. But you would probably make new friends with dumpster divers and people who used to live on communes in British Columbia.
Maybe a week, that would be a LONG month! hows about December? j/k
ReplyDeleteI've heard of that book! It sounds cool.
ReplyDeleteDear Lala,
ReplyDeleteWow, a visitor from the homeland! I'm sorry it has taken me a while to write back re: your nice comments on my blog. It's nearing August here in Melbourne, and while I have found work, the call to return to Canada is strong.
When I have more time, I'll read more of your life in Canada as it will be weird to reacquaint with Canadiana after 2 years on the road.
I hope I don't have to stay long in Canada as there's a great world to see out there. Nice Nacho Joke, btw! ;)
